Safety Planning: Creating a safe learning environment for BC Education.

Developing a safe learning environment for the community to gather and learn essential BC skills and practice rescue techniques is the most important element of hosting developmental workshops for the public. Working with Snow safety professional such as Backcountry United and Ortovox, I have come to develop an in depth avalanche safety plan contained within our Detailed Operation Plan. Utilizing strategies for collecting data in the analysis and evaluation of hazards we are able to assess the hazard which leads us into our risk assessment process for our given operation that day that guides our decision making for risk treatment. Setting weather and danger threshold allows us to maintain a controllable learning environment for our clinics in the Backcountry. Communicating the practice needed for responding to an emergency with the use of an operating procedure provides clear and concise protocols used by our staff. Excited to implement our updated safety plan this season and hope to see some new faces out this year!!
