Project Pushes Progression

Being assigned the task of presenting a topic covered in our Snow & Avalanches 1 course; I chose to go further in depth on the definitions and conceptual understanding of Avalanche Problems and Types used in hazard and risk assessments for public use. I studied these terms and characteristics of avalanches and the concepts that recreational users were missing or lacking in the application of this knowledge as it relates to terrain management and route selection.

Addressing the need for a learning tool to aid the implementation of applicable knowledge with avalanche hazard identification in beginner level groups, I formulated a graphic tool with bullet points of focused information. Creating a tool that people can easily read with an added ingredient of colorful fun and dry erase note sheets; the journey begins to collect feedback from user groups and peers to progress the development of more user friendly tools to manage our inherent risks in the backcountry.
